GINGERBREAD DOUGH

Watch the YouTube tutorial HERE

This is a very special recipe that is VERY close to my heart. It is my mom's gingerbread recipe that she's been making since I was little. They have so much flavour, and you can bake them to be on the soft and chewy side or thin and crispy. I like 'em soft, and I usually amp up the spices to make them even more gingerbread-y. Whether you want to make a gingerbread house, gingerbread person or simple ginger thins- this is THE recipe.

INGREDIENTS:

4 1/2 cups flour

1 tsp. baking soda

1 tsp. salt

2 tsps. ground cinnamon

1 tsp. ground ginger

1 tsp. ground cloves

1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg

1 cup butter

1 cup sugar

1 cup molasses

1 egg

1 tsp. vanilla

HOW TO:

1.) Pre-heat your oven to 350 degrees F

2.) Line your cookie sheets with parchment paper or a silicone mat

3.) Measure all dry ingredients into a bowl. Whisk together thoroughly

4.) Cream butter and sugar in mixer bowl until light and fluffy

5.) Beat in molasses, egg and vanilla

6.) Add flour mixture 1/3 at a time to make a soft dough

7.) Wrap and chill 4 hours or overnight

8.) .Roll 1/8 inch thick on floured surface and bake 1 inch apart on cookie sheets for 8 minutes (slightly longer if you want crispier cookies)
