Sea Salt + Chocolate Dessert Hummus
What can I say about this hummus? I've never made dessert hummus before, let alone tried it, but I'd heard about it and was curious. Not too sweet, a nice wee salty kick, healthy ingredients and vegan to boot! I'm all about finding good substitutes for the less healthy things (really, so I can eat more of it!)
This recipe is dead easy, but you do need a blender or food processor to make it right.
INGREDIENTS:
- 540 ml can of 'no salt" chickpeas (rinsed well)
-1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
-1/4 cup maple syrup
-3 tbsp. canola or sunflower (can also use olive oil)
-3 tbsp. water
-1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
-1/4 tsp. salt
GARNISH
-2 tbsp. finely chopped dark chocolate
-a pinch of flaked sea salt
HOW TO:
1.) Put everything in your food processor (except the garnish) and process for about a minute
2.) Scrape down the sides, then process for a good 5 minutes until very smooth
3.) While the hummus is blending chop up for dark chocolate
4.) Place in a bowl and garnish with the dark chocolate and crush a little flaked sea salt on top
5.) Serve with pretzel chips, rice cakes, fruit of your choice or get creative!
NOTES:
*You can soak and cook dried chickpeas as well, if you don't have the canned ones
